Black Rhino is working to bring wildlife conservation to the blockchain, and open up opportunities for organizations around the world to enter into the space in a sustainable way.
About the Black Rhino Collection
The Black Rhino Early Adopters NFT project will feature three unique collection drops in support of Keep Nature Alive and BioRescue, starting with the first collection in May 2022.
The art for each collection will feature actual scans of a variety of species taken from the BioRescue medical research facility located in Berlin, Germany.
NFT holders will become Black Rhino 'Early Adopters' and get early access to all future Black Rhino projects, as well as opportunities for real-world exclusive access to zoos, sanctuaries and parks around the world. The collection will be available exclusively on the Solana blockchain through Rarible.
“We chose to work with Rarible for this collection because of their strong reputation within the NFT community, as well as their working relationship with Nori, which enables NFTs to be certified as carbon-neutral with carbon offset purchases. This is vitally important to us.” - Brandon
Why Cardano of all the Blockchains?
Cardano is an industry leader in the blockchain industry for layer 1 solutions. Their dedication to environmentally friendly solutions as well as a focus on key areas of the world with less opportunity is what initially drew us to the Cardano blockchain.
What are the plans for working on Cardano?
"The plan is to work within the Cardano ecosystem, and develop a user-friendly platform which will allow users to utilize tools in blockchain, while contributing to environmental and species protection around the world. The Cardano community is incredibly supportive of this initiative considering Cardano’s strong stance on creating environmentally sustainable solutions within the industry.

Why start Black Rhino?
The 2020 pandemic and rise of cryptocurrency markets played a major role in our decision to start Black Rhino. The pandemic had a drastic effect on thousands of national sanctuaries, parks, zoos, habitats, protected lands, and more. Many organizations lost more than 40% of their revenue which is vital in funding daily operations. To our team, the rise of cryptocurrency markets and interest in blockchain technology in 2020 provided a glimpse into the future, and an opportunity to open the door to new potential markets for funding conservation efforts around the world.
Challenges along the way
Blockchain is providing us with the opportunity to use tools in DeFi such as Tokenization, NFTs, Yield, and Staking, in order to provide new opportunities for everyday cryptocurrency users to contribute to real-world conservation efforts around the world, simply by performing standard blockchain-based transactions. Open-ledger technology is also allowing us to create a transparent and seamless experience for users, to ensure secure use of funds
What do you see as challenges in your landscape and context (Government, perceptions, FUD, industry) and how Black Rhino fits in this context?
"The challenges we face are mostly related to education, perceptions and industry gatekeepers. Overcoming the stigma and environmental concerns related to blockchain technologies is a major concern that we have. It is one of our top priorities to research and explore the best possible ways to utilize the technology in an environmentally friendly way, or even in fact, an entirely carbon-negative way. Right now the public perception of sustainability in blockchain is not good. However, as educational materials become more available and the technology becomes more accepted around the globe, we find that the public perception is changing." - Brandon
Brandon - Co-founder of Black Rhino
“My name is Brandon, I am a co-founder of Black Rhino. We are a team of 8 people as of today with experienced professionals from all different walks of life based around the world. We all share two passions, blockchain technology and environmentalism. What we are doing is attempting to work with non-profit conservation organizations around the world with an interest in the blockchain sector. Our goal is to work with them to integrate new solutions in blockchain into their existing operations and fundraising models.”
Thoughts on the future of the space
“This space is so young, we are only getting started. Potential solutions to problems we have faced for many years could be within arms reach thanks to these emerging technologies. However, we need to be patient and see the light through the trees. This technology is capable of so much more than what we associate it with today.”
Dive into the NFTs
